I've listened to only one of these in the past couple days, but I can say without question that Debby Boone is a dead end.  I'll weigh in with more after giving the rest another listen.

Dabysan

Wow. That's a big statement. I think all of the finalists have some real potential, but I'm interested to hear your reasoning.

M-----l

I want to see you squirm on stage for seven and a half minutes.  That's why I'm voting for "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant".

brownamazon

oooh, Italian Restaurant--7 minutes of heaven!

Dabysan

In the course of putting this post together, I listened to "Scenes" all the way through for the first time in -- well -- ever. It is a truly miserable song, and I will be truly miserable singing it. Nice work.

M-----l

It's actually my favorite Billy Joel song.

Dabysan

No offense intended, but I find it borderline unlistenable...not that that's a bad thing for KttD purposes.

Dabysan

My favorite Billy Joel song is the theme from Bosom Buddies.

...the theme from Bosom Buddies.
I like the part where they walk through the sprinkler.  That really made an impression on me when I was a kid.  I don't think I've ever dodged a sprinkler in my life.  I walk right through them and hum that song.  No lie.
Dabysan

It's one of my favorite show openings ever, right up there with Miami Vice, Crime Story and the Jeffersons. No joke.

CarrieNation

I was a strong debby boone supporter. After listening to that Billy Joel song, I gotta go with the "bottle of white" etc.

[this is good]

Ditto Carrie, pretty much...I'm really glad that people actually listened to the BJ song because I knew it was pure gold--it;s like the perfect storm of karaoke suckage.  BUT I still think YLUML is a good choice too.  I'm going to listen to the other songs, once my stupid Java finishes updating and will cast my vote which is probably going to be Italian Restaurant.  As long as you promise to play some Air Piano.

Aubrey

I've never liked Billy Joel - so I can never vote for a song of his, even under these very special circumstances.

"My Heart Will Go On", please.

IG

I'd never heard Italian Restaurant before so I tried to listen to it before I cast my vote. I had to stop about halfway, through. Maybe that means it's the winner.

I'm kind of leaning towards Oh What A Night, except my office roomie says it's far too easy to perform acceptably. I'm torn.

Dabysan

I'm glad I posted the songs. Italian Restaurant really is brutal, and I had never paid very much attention to it. For what its worth, I think I would mangle any of these tunes.

IG

I made a pact with myself that I wouldn't pack up and leave work until I'd listened to Restaurant all the way through. I'm into my third attempt now. Omg, it gets worse at the 1/3 mark.  :-O

mariser

You Light Up my Life.

Starship Trooper!

IG that's the beauty of the song, it changes up so many times.  There are so many different parts to loathe.  I actually have a soft spot (not on my head, but, well, maybe) for this whole album, it was probably the first rock album we had, graduating from The Captain and Tenille and Donny and Marie.

Scenes from an Italian Restaurant - Billy Joel

I definitely think that it has the most potential for long, tedious, gut-wrenching disaster, and the trophy. Maybe it would help if beforehand you and Carrie split a bottle of red, and a bottle of white. perhaps a bottle of rose also.

Dabysan

You know Cranky, I think you really missed your calling as a KttD coach. I didn't think much at all about Italian Restaurant, but it really is vile. And sooooooo long. People are gonna want to punch me.

Dabysan

If it wins, of course.

hotrod

I'll second this.  If Vanna is the Vince Lombardi of KttD coaches, Cranky is the Chuck Noll.

AmyH

Gosh, there's such a strong argument for "Scenes" that I'd hate to not vote for it. Other than if you sing that, then perhaps I'll snatch up one of your discards.

A seven-minute song takes up a lot of time, time taken away from the rest of us. Hmm.

hotrod

AmyH raises a good point.  As was counseled to me a couple years ago when I was considering "Kashmir," with a song that long one runs the risk of the audience losing interest.  You want them to hate you, but not be bored by you.
