AmyH

I'll sing it only if I can wear that sweet macramae halter top. That's hot.

I love the crowd scenes - no one is moving or appearing to be enjoying the show.

Now I'm not sure if she's Canadian or not. I can't tell when they try to trick us by speaking American like we do. :-P

It'll be hard singing "I'm Only Happy When It Rains" with a straight face, but maybe I can draw upon all my inner anger.

Dabysan

KttD IV Champion SooDohNim sang Goldfinger to great effect a few years ago. It didn't win, but it was really very good.

AmyH

Awe.some. That might be it. It's a little lower than I can usually do, but that's better than listening to me go higher.

crankypants

I think someone should thing the Theme From Shaft.

Dabysan

I like the idea of a female country music star a lot, because I'm not female and I don't like country, so I think the clash would be pretty righteous.

hotrod

Goldfinger was maybe the most inspired song in the long and glorious history of KttD.

AmyH

Aw, phoo that someone already did Goldfinger. Now I have to start all over again.

I'll still wear the Helen Reddy Halter Top, regardless of what I pick.

crankypants

Wow, I didn't realize there were so few actual lyrics to the theme from shaft...

I think you should or could still go for Goldfinger.  It's not against the rules and the previous singer was male.

Dabysan

That is absolutely true. There's nothing wrong with doing a previously performed song -- so long as it wasn't a winner. It's your interpretation that will drive it home.

AmyH

I think it's too dangerous to go up against KttD legendary performances. It would be like a cheap Hollywood remake of a great European movie. I can't live up to nostalgia.

AmyH

What are all you East Coasters doing up so late? I'm going to bed, if I can get all these songs to stop floating around in my head.

Dabysan

I think along the Shaft lines, Superfly also presents some nice opportunities. Specifically Freddie's Dead.

AmyH

Hooked on a Feeling could be fun.

Good thing I have this blackberry. Now I can ramble on and add to Daby's comment war count and not feel like I'm OCD Girl. Much.

Dabysan

They are hardly ramblings, and they are most appreciated.

One of the great challenges of KttD, is that once you steel yourself to perform, you realize there are really quite a lot of songs you want to sing.

I, for instance, have always wanted to perform Touch Me by the Doors, but never thought it had the potential to be a winner.

All of this is to say, I appreciate the challenge you're facing.

hotrod

Jeez, the list of song I have discarded is extensive indeed.   Maybe I should post that since Daby stole my thunder with the best non-winning songs.

Dabysan

I really wish we had made Karaoke to the Pain happen. We need more Ktt sanctioned events.

hotrod

Karaoke to the Pain was a solid idea, sullied by Doc Paradox' shrew ex-wife.

mariser

you know we'll at some point require an explanation of KttP

Dabysan

It was a good idea that never really got off the ground -- an tune-up contest for KttD. Maybe we should regale the full story though.

hotrod

At one point, we had discussed a series of Ktt... events, to commemorate not just Presidents' Day, but also Flag Day and Columbus Day.  We eventually scrapped the idea so as not to dilute the majesty of the main event.  And wisely so.  If I recall correctly, KttP was to take place in October and the prize would go to the second worst - so people would have to try a little bit.

mariser

thanks for explaining KttP, gentlemen.
I think it was wise not to dilute the power of KttD - what would have ended up with, KttSI (Ktt Slight Injuries)?

Scott

Low voice? Well hell, "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" is a shoo-in.

Hey, no smirking. You may find yourself on a chain gang someday and be glad you had the practice.

Dabysan

While I'd rate the likelihood of me ending up on a chain gang as "high," the problem is that KttD is a BAD singing contest, and I could probably manage to sing Swing Low tolerably well. Not great mind you, but not bad enough to offend people.

Scott

How about Pavarotti's signature "Nessun Dorma"? It'd have several advantages. It's opera, so people either love it or hate it. It's in Italian, so most people in the audience will be annoyed at not knowing what you're saying--or, if they do know, they'll be embarrassed at the melodrama. And most importantly, it goes way up in the tenor range; if you've got a low voice, the end will be completely unsingable.

Drawback? It's probably bloody impossible finding a karaoke recording for it.
